This position paper aims to discuss and elucidate some of the main aspects considered important by the NBS Brazil Alliance in the discussion on REDD+ Jurisdictional Programs. The NBS Brazil Alliance believes that the future of REDD+ lies in integrated systems that leverage the strengths of both jurisdictional programs and private projects and, at the same time, overcome the weaknesses that each one presents.
This document aims to clarify the main criteria deemed necessary by Aliança Brazil NBS for the elaboration of a high-integrity and quality REDD+ project to be developed in the Brazilian Amazon. It should serve as a guide for audits and verification institutions as the minimum criteria to be presented by project proponents for Brazilian projects to ensure documentary regularity and quality. It is also expected that audits and verification institutions see these points as the first step of analysis and go beyond the points hereby suggested.
